Don's Own Grog

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz lime juice
  • 0.25 oz demerara syrup (I used caramel syrup)
  • 1 dash grenadine (this isn't normally measured in dashes. I took it to mean one bar spoon)
  • 0.5 oz blackberry liqueur (I used giffard's creme de mûre)
  • 1 oz blended aged rum
  • 0.5 oz blended lightly aged rum
  • 0.5 oz black blended rum
  • 1 dash angostura bitters

Instructions

  • Shake with crushed ice.
  • Dump into glass

Verdict

While mixing this, I realized I didn't have any demerara syrup, so I used caramel syrup instead. I tasted just the mix of caramel syrup, lime, and grenadine, and was blown away by how delicious it was. I'm definitely going to workshop that into a cocktail. As for *this* cocktail, however, it's pretty nice. All the flavors do get lost, though, and blend together. The nutmeg on the nose overpowers the drink. You also definitely need a straw. If you drink this directly through the crushed ice, you won't taste almost anything. All in all it's a nice tropical drink, without any stand-out flavors.

Notes

There are times when I have all those categories at home, but this time I didn't, so I let the delicious Bacardi 8 stand in for all 3 of them.
