The best thing I've had in the last 6 months. Right up there with a daquiri. This is a better and more complex Margarita.Score

I tried it with mezcal instead of tequila. It just takes the place of the ginger, so it doesn't make it better. It's possible that a small amount of mezcal would work, but since they occupy the same "flavor space" on the tongue, in a sense, it's not likely to make it any better. This cocktail actually requires homemade strawberry syrup. Monin won't do. 3 parts chopped strawberries, 2 parts sugar. Let sit over night.
If you replace the yellow chartreuse with Cointreau, it's like a glass of Fanta. It's very interesting, but also not quite as good as the original. This replacement makes it very clear that the yellow chartreuse really participates in the original.
Replacing the yellow chartreuse with amaretto is ok, but tastes almost exclusively like amaretto. It's not a good replacement.
